* While I was taking a shower this afternoon I thought of an idea for a cool set of dread falls for me. I think I will make them for Anime night at Manray. They won't take me that long to do so I can probably whip them up in the next couple of days.

* Last night Militart and I watched the X-Men movie since it was on TV. I love that movie.
It sucked watching it on TV since we had to deal with commercials, but we got to see previews for the new X-Men movie. The new one looks so damn cool! I can't wait until it comes out next month.
I wish I could look as cool as Storm does.

* I've also been researching more about what the fuck I want to do with my life. I really loved being a research assistant at my last job. I loved the research part of the work. So now I'm wondering if I should stick to that. I could get my Masters in Psychology at RIC for a cheap price. It would cost about $6,000 which isn't that bad. I would only be able to go part time so that price would be paid over 3-4 years.
But would a Masters in Psychology get me a higher up research job? Or would a Masters in Psychology be another pointless degree like my BA in Art Therapy?

I think I'm going to give up on the education psychology program because it would be too difficult to get certified to teach first. I basically would have to take a shit load of courses and to me that is so stupid since I don't want to teach. The only reason I would want to be certified would be in order to get into the educational psych program.

I also know I don't want my own practice or anything like that. I also don't want to be a social worker. The research part is what really interests me.

I've been trying to get another research assistant job but I haven't had any luck with that yet. Brown University is the one place that usually has a ton of research jobs but right now they are on a hiring freeze. :(

UPDATE:

I found out that the University of RI has a Masters and PH.D program in Experimental Psychology. After reading about this program a couple of times, I think I really do want to persue a higher level psychology research job. Maybe in a year, I will apply to this program or something like it (unless I somehow find myself in a decent higher level research type of job.)
I'll need a year to see if I can afford it and to study for the GRE Test. You need to get a pretty high score on teh GRE test to get in. And I HATE timed tests. My Undergrad GPA is fine though.

I think the master's would be useful for trying to do counseling/therapy yourself, but it probably wouldn't help much for research assistant jobs. I'd just go directly for the job you want. Except you're probably kind of limited in Providence ... lots more jobs like that in Boston.

I just looked up URI and I found that they have a Masters program in Experimental Psychology. That is more geared towards research. The tuition price is about the same as RIC but URI is in N.Kingston so that is about a 45 minute drive from here.
:(

I'm not even going to look at Brown for graduate studies since there is no way I could afford it. I also don't think I would even get in. Plus I really don't want to take out any more loans since I already owe 17k.

I HATE that most schools are so expensive! I originally wanted to get my Masters in Art Therapy from Lesly College (One of the best schools for Art Therapy in the USA) but that school is 18k a year. All the schools for Art Therapy are in that price range too.

I'm just wondering if a MA would do you much good, if you want to do something like a research assistant/research coordinator job. All the labs I know generally just hire BAs with psychology degrees or psychology experience. Since you already have some research assistant experience that might be all you need. So you might be able to get the kinds of jobs you want without the time and expense of more school.

True.
But sometimes I feel like I would be more likely to get a research job if I had more school. I went on a couple of interviews for research jobs and they said I didn't have strong enough research and statistical skills. So I'm thinking more education might help me with that.

Maybe I should have started looking for research jobs at hospitals and colleges in Boston. I mainly focused around here because the commute to Boston would be a pain in the ass.

It really sucks that you live so far away... my job is scanning Monster.com trying to find more research assistants to hire!
What fields have you been searching in as far as research goes? Have you tried looking on http://boston.craigslist.org ?

Figures!

Right now I want to do psychological research in a hospital, industry or academic environment.

Yeah I have looked on there before. It hasn't really helped me yet.
